Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how [International Journal of Islam] ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with the MyCetele mobile application (the "App"), available on Android and iOS (the "Services"). By creating an account or otherwise using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you register for and use the App, we collect the following information that you provide to us:

• Account information: full name, email address, password, age, and gender.
• Profile picture: a photo you choose to take with your device camera or select from your photo library, which is uploaded to our storage provider and linked to your profile.
• Family / sub-member profiles: the App allows a primary ("admin") account holder to create additional linked profiles ("sub-members") for other individuals — for example, family members — either directly within the App or by sending an invite link. Sub-member profiles may include the same categories of information listed above (name, age, gender, profile picture), entered by the admin account holder or by the invited individual. See Section 6 (Children's Privacy & Family Accounts) for additional detail.
• Goal, reading, and content activity: goals you create (titles, categories, targets, and completion status), reading/watching/listening progress, bookmarks and last-read positions, reminder schedules you configure, and points or scores earned within the App's gamification system.
• Communications: information you provide when you contact us for support, such as your email address and the content of your message.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Device information: device model and basic technical information necessary to operate the App.
• Analytics and diagnostic data: we use Firebase Analytics, which automatically collects standard usage and diagnostic data (such as app opens, session length, and general interaction events) to help us understand how the App is used and to maintain its stability. We do not currently configure custom, user-level analytics events beyond the SDK's default behavior.
• Advertising identifier (Android only): the Android version of the App includes the Firebase Analytics SDK, which by default requests access to the Google Advertising ID (AD_ID) at the operating system level. We do not use any advertising network and do not use the Advertising ID for ad targeting, ad personalization, or cross-app tracking. Its presence is a technical side effect of the analytics SDK, not an advertising feature of the App.
• Crash and diagnostic data (iOS only): the iOS version of the App uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash logs and diagnostic information to help us identify and fix technical issues. The Android version does not currently use a crash-reporting SDK.

1.3 Information We Do Not Collect

To be transparent, the App does not collect: precise or coarse location data, contacts, microphone audio/recordings, payment or billing information (the App does not offer in-app purchases), or biometric data. Any device permission descriptions referencing camera, photo library, or notifications are used strictly for the purposes described in this Policy (profile photo selection and local reminders) and not for any other form of data collection.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account and any linked family/sub-member profiles;
• Operate the App's core features, including goal tracking, progress synchronization across your devices, bookmarking, and the points/rewards system;
• Send you local reminder notifications that you have configured (e.g., goal reminders, daily progress summaries);
• Maintain, secure, and improve the App, including diagnosing technical problems through analytics and crash reporting;
• Respond to your support requests and communicate with you about your account;
• Comply with applicable legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your information for third-party advertising or ad personalization.

3. Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party service providers to operate the App. Each provider processes data on our behalf and is subject to its own privacy policy:

These providers may process and store data on servers located outside your country of residence. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy and Apple's Privacy Policy.

We do not share your personal information with any other third parties for their own marketing or advertising purposes.

4. Advertising & Tracking

We do not integrate any third-party advertising network or ad-serving SDK. We do not display personalized or behavioral advertising within the App, and on iOS we do not use App Tracking Transparency or any advertising identifier (IDFA). As noted in Section 1.2, the Android build's inclusion of the Advertising ID permission is a byproduct of the analytics SDK and is not used to serve or target ads.

5. Push and Local Notifications

The App uses locally scheduled notifications (managed entirely on your device) to remind you of goals you have configured and to deliver optional daily progress summaries. These notifications are not sent from our servers and do not involve transmitting personal data to a third party for push-messaging purposes. You can disable notifications at any time through your device's system settings or within the App's notification preferences.

6. Children's Privacy & Family/Sub-Member Accounts

We take children's privacy seriously. The App is rated for a general audience (4+) and includes a family/sub-member feature intended to let a parent or legal guardian ("Account Holder") track goals and reading/watching/listening progress on behalf of a child or other family member.

• Parental control required: Sub-member profiles for a child under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) must be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian acting as the Account Holder. Children should not independently register their own primary account.
• Limited data collected for children: For a child's sub-member profile, we collect only the minimum information necessary to operate the App's goal-tracking features: a name, age, an optional profile photo, and goal/reading progress data. We do not collect location, contact information, or any other sensitive data about a child.
• Verifiable parental consent: By creating a sub-member profile for a child, the Account Holder represents that they are the child's parent or legal guardian and consents, on the child's behalf, to the collection and use of the child's information as described in this Policy.
• No advertising to children: We do not serve advertising of any kind within the App, and we do not use any child's information for advertising, marketing, or behavioral profiling purposes.
• Parental access and deletion rights: A parent or legal guardian may review, correct, or request deletion of a child's sub-member profile and associated data at any time by using the in-app account management tools or by contacting us at [info@theislamicjournal.com].
• Unauthorized child data: If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with information without appropriate consent, please contact us at [info@theislamicjournal.com].

Note: our Terms of Service currently state a general minimum age for independently registering a primary account; that age requirement applies to primary Account Holders and does not limit the parent-managed family/sub-member feature described above, which is designed for use by children under a parent's or guardian's supervision.

7. Data Storage & Security

Your information is stored using Google Firebase's cloud infrastructure, which applies industry-standard security measures, including encryption of data in transit. Account passwords are managed directly by Firebase Authentication and are never stored or visible to us in plain text. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from within the App's settings. When you delete your primary account, we remove your sign-in credentials so that you can no longer log in. Deleting a sub-member profile removes it from your family list and marks the associated data for removal.

Some associated content (such as historical goal or progress records) may be retained for a limited period afterward for backup, technical, or legal purposes before being permanently deleted from our systems. If you would like your data permanently and completely erased sooner than our standard retention process, or if you have questions about what data remains after account deletion, please contact us at [info@theislamicjournal.com] and we will process your request.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you;
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
• Request deletion of your personal information;
• Request a copy of your personal information in a portable format;
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your information;
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

10. International Data Transfers

Our third-party service providers (see Section 3) may process and store your information on servers located in countries other than your own, including the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations, which may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Policy when we make changes. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
